ACACIA GREGGII

Acacia greggii

BOTANICAL NAME: Acacia greggii
COMMON NAME: Catclaw Acacia
DESCRIPTION: The Kelly Green Trees’ selection is a multi-trunk tree to 25' tall and 20' wide. Gray-green leaflets are deciduous. Mildly fragrant, creamy flower spikes appear in the spring followed by coppery flat seed pods. Native to the rocky hillsides and flats of the Sonoran Desert. Hardy to 0°.
LANDSCAPE USES: Silvery gray trunks and branches add interest to natural desert landscapes. Use as accent away from traffic areas. Catclaws form an impenetrable barrier when planted as a hedge. Habitat for birds. Tolerates heat, cold and infrequent irrigations.
LANDSCAPE LOCATIONS: In Tucson, Median on Speedway Blvd. near University of Arizona
CARE: Prune up to establish tree form and expose interesting branching. Survive on native rainfall, but look and grow best with supplemental irrigation and good drainage.
